Each month we celebrate the heart of Prelove You: our members! This time we’re catching up with Jessica Watts, mom of River, 3.
What’s the most unexpected gem you’ve found on Prelove You—something you didn’t know you needed until it popped up?
“Halloween costume for River! I love that I can scoop up dress-up clothes secondhand. They’re some of our favorite finds.”
If Prelove You gave out awards, what would you win?
“The “Baby Blazer Enthusiast” award, for sure. I love blazers—and love that we get to re-use them! So many people buy them for a one-time wear. This feels so much better.”
What’s something you swore you’d never do as a parent… and now totally do?
“Screen time. It’s necessary for both of us to regulate sometimes.”
What’s your go-to “we’re late but I want to look like I have it together” outfit or hack?
“In summer, a quick dress and fun earrings. Come winter, it’s a French tuck sweater, jeans, and flats or boots. Easy and pulled together.
”
Tell us about the last time your kid(s) completely humbled you in public.
“River has a lot of energy and struggles with change, so dinners out can be tricky—and humbling. I’ve had my fair share of “why did I think this was a good idea?” moments.
”
What does “me time” actually look like these days?
“Honestly? Sitting in the car in the driveway before I go inside. I also try to make space for community events—that helps recharge my battery, too.
”
If parenting came with a soundtrack, what would your theme song be this week?
““When the Sun Goes Down” by Kenny Chesney. It’s when I finally get to relax. And summer means longer hours for everyone!
”
What’s your secret superpower as a mom that no one talks about—but totally should?
“Dinner. I can do dinner like a pro. I’ve worked hard to diversify River’s taste buds—and luckily he’s become a little food explorer!”
What’s one sustainable parenting hack or tip you wish you could text back in time to your pre-mom self?
“Compostable zip locks. Thank heavens for those. Kids and their snack bags are real—and I love the Compostable brand.”
What’s one tiny moment from the past week that made you stop and think, “Okay, this is the good stuff”?
“I’ve been working a lot this season, and one day when I had to leave again, River told me, “Good luck Mommy, win some more awards.” I definitely cried in my car.”
